Vancouverites gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery in downtown Vancouver on Sunday May 31, 2020 at 5pm to show solidarity with the black community and to protest George Floyd’s death.  The gathering was peaceful with no violence or arrests.  There were even times of silence when people were waiting for the next speaker.

Vancouver stores are preparing to open again after the BC Government announced it plans on May 6, 2020 to restart the economy after the pandemic shutdown many businesses.  Stores that were boarded up and painted by artists had removed the plywood.  You can see some of the boarded up photos and photos taken on May 13th, 2020 below.

Here is a look at how Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver is looking these days.  But like the transformation happening on Robson Street, artists are painting on boarded up storefronts on Granville Street with the support of Downtown Vancouver BIA and Vancouver Mural Festival.

I often look at the websites of companies who are looking to hire me and have a look at their board members or executive staff page.  Many times the corporate headshots are an inconsistent collection of snapshots that the board members or executives have submitted themselves.  It reflects poorly on the company.  The good news is it’s not hard to get a decent group of headshots even if you’re not a professional photographer.  Some tips to DIY:

1. Choose the right background.

The most noticeable thing I see is inconsistency in backgrounds.  Some are done on clean white background, some are done outdoors. Even if your team cannot be together, everyone should get a photo done with a similar background.  Choose a white wall, choose a building foyer, choose a setting with some greenery – whatever it is make is similar for everyone.

2. Good grooming.

Hair done, make up done, clean nails, ironed clothing, properly fitted clothing, teeth brushed.  These details make a difference in the final photo and it’s the one we are often trying to correct right before the photo is taken.

3. Use a longer lens.

If you are using zoom lens, use the longest focal length and move away from the person.

Hopefully that will help you, but call us if you want a professional to get it done quickly.
